Stories from Around the World

At Journey Global Missions, we believe that an effective and compassionate response begins with trusted relationships on the ground.  Over the past several years, through our Network Missionaries and Ministry Partners, we have ben privileged to respond quickly and meaningfully to crises in various parts of the world.

By maintaining strong relationships wit local missionaries and ministry leaders - many of whom have been trained and mentored within their communities - Journey has been able to assist in delivering critical aid when and where it is most needed.  Whether it was the devastating earthquake in Myanmar, Hurricane Helene’s impact on Western North Carolina, the humanitarian crisis caused by the war in Ukraine, the 2015 Nepal earthquake, or the 2016 Ecuador earthquake, our teams have mobilized rapidly to distribute water filtration systems, food, and medical supplies to displaced individuals.

We invite you to explore the stories below to see how God is working through Journey Global Missions and our partners across the globe.

Myanmar Earthquake

On Marc 28, 2025, a devastating earthquake with a magnitude between 7.7 and 7.9 struck central Myanmar near Mandalay.  Many organization were unable to enter the country to provide aid.  Despite the challenges of operating in a war-torn nation and its restrictive policies, the local leaders trained by Journey Global Missions missionaries Peter and Joan Vaughan were able to supply medical supplies, food, and water filtration device, which were distributed to hundreds.

In delivering these much-needed supplies, leaders shared the gospel, resulting in hundreds becoming followers of Jesus.  This directly stems from cultivating local disciples who are residents and understand the terrain, enabling them to navigate from village to village and use to house without obstruction.

Journey Global Mission specializes in supporting missionaries and ministries.  The location, alliance partners, and donors of Journey Global Missions contributed generously to the relief effort, ensuring rapid deployment.

Western North Carolina | Hurricane Helene

Hurricane Helen struck Western North Carolina in late September 2024, leaving a trail of unprecedented destruction in its wake.  The storm caused catastrophic flooding, landslides, and infrastructure collapse, making it the most costly natural disaster in the state’s history.

Journey Global Missions collaborated with ministries in Western North Carolina to provide financial support for relief efforts.  These ministries established approved sites to distribute food, medical supplies, and offer shelter for displayed families.

Nepal Earthquake

The Gorkha Earthquake, also known as the April 2015 Nepal earthquake, was a catastrophic seismic event that struck Nepal on April 25, 2015.  With a magnitude of 7.8, its epicenter was located near the village of Barpak in the Gorkha District, about 76 km northwest of Kathmandu.  This earthquake was the worst natural disaster to affect Nepal since the 1934 Nepal-India earthquake.

Within hours of receiving funds from Journey Global Missions, our Network Partners were able to supply food and supplies to many.  Tents were purchased to provide shelter since many structures and homes were destroyed.

Russia-Ukraine War

The Russia-Ukraine war began on February 24, 2022.  The conflict has had a devastating impact on women and children, particularly because most able-bodied men aged 18-60 were required to remain and fight, leaving families separated.  Millions of women and children fled to Ukraine to neighboring countries like Romania, Poland, and Moldova.

Journey Global Missions’ network partners in Romania collaborated with local ministries to mobilize resources and cross the border into Ukraine, delivering essential supplies to families.  As hundreds of refugees fled war-torn communities and made their way to Romania, the team established a shelter to accolade the influx.  While seeking refuge, the refuges received food, shelter, and medical supplies, and they also had the opportunities to attend church services.

Ecuador Earthquake

On April 16, 2016, Ecuador experienced a 7.8 earthquake near the town of Musine on its norther coast.  At the time of the earthquake, Journey Global Missions Peter and Joan Vaughan were serving in the country.  One of the greatest needs was clean water.  With funding, Peter and Joan ordered Sawyer water filters and distributed them to many families.  Reports indicated that several babies’ lives were saved as a result of receiving these water filters.  Many had become sick, and some died from contaminated water.
