Unit Bahasa dan Budaya (UBB)
Language and Culture Unit

The Unit Bahasa dan Budaya (UBB) Language and Culture Unit is located in Kupang, Indonesia. UBB works closely with local churches and its staff, along with the assistance of a Linguistic Professor, an Anthropologist, and a Literacy Education Specialist. Together, they work on translation and literacy projects in 30 Christian schools in the West Timor Region.

Indonesia has 700 different languages, making up 10% of the world's languages, with many areas having a spoken language but not a written one. As children learn their tribe’s mother tongue, Bible stories are presented in the classroom along with music to aid in development using phonics. In Indonesia, where tribes do not have a written language, the process is much more complex, especially in Bible translation, which can take many years to accomplish.

In August 2024 UBB will add two new schools on Rote Island where the Dela-Oenale language is spoken. Rote is an island of Indonesia, part of the East Nusa Tenggara province of the Lesser Sunda Islands. See Projects

Museum of the Bible Washington, D.C.

In June of 2019, UBB presented and dedicated the Lole Bible to the Museum of the Bible in Washington, D.C. from the island of Rote in Timor, Indonesia. In the fall of 2024, UBB hopes to present a second Bible to the museum.

UBB Staff, Consultants, Missionaries and Partners 

Journey Global Missions was inspired by Paul’s missionary journeys to Asia Minor and Europe which played a crucial role in the formation and development of the First Century Church. Today Journey Global Missions continues to embrace the biblical fundamentals of the early Church by assisting and working with the local Church and those sent and supported by the local Church. Paul’s journey, his inspired teachings and instruction which started in the local Church at Antioch were consistent with Matthew 28: 19-20 when Jesus said: “Go, therefore, and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit, teaching them to follow all that I commanded you;”
